Samedan is characterized by its central position in the Upper Engadin. It accessible by car, train and plane. The community is situated at the intersection of mountain passes and roads leading from south to north and west to east. This efficient network connects Samedan with the northern and central Grison, the southern valleys of the Engadin and nearby Italy.

The big economic areas of Zurich, Milan and Munich are only a three hours’ drive away. The fully developed public transport system consisting of a network of local busses and the Rhaetian Ralilway makes the entire Upper Engadin accessible to inhabitants, guests and workers alike. All important amenities are within minutes’ reach. Home to Grison’s only airport, Samedan is also accessible by air.

Arrival by car

By car Samedan is within easy reach from northern Switzerland, Ticino, Italy and Austria, on safe, well-maintained alpine roads. Distances and approximate journey times for e.g.:

Zurich – Samedan: 200 km, 3 hours
Milano – Samedan: 175 km, 3 hours
Munich – Samedan: 300 km, 4 hours

Crossing the passes in drifting snow is only permitted if using snow chains or driving a 4×4 vehicle.

Arrival by train

The journey by Rhaetian Railway (RhB) via Tiefencastel into the Upper Engadin passes through loop tunnels and over dizzying viaducts and is one of the most picturesque and interesting journeys in the whole of Europe.

Besides, there is also the possibility of travelling via Klosters and the Vereina-Tunnel to the Upper Engadin. Travel time from Zurich to Samedan: 3 hours 19 min.
